Drama as girlfriend caught cheating.

Drama unfolded in Comfort estate, main campus on Wednesday night after a young couple diffed on their relationship. A 20 -year-old man stabbed his 19-year old girlfriend following a sex scandal.
The victim, Sharon Momai, was allegedly found cheating with a neighbor, whom eye witnesses say has been a close friend to the boyfriend. The two were found half naked by the boyfriend following a tip off by the neighbors.
The angry boyfriend, James Chepchumba was angered by the scene and grabbed a kitchen knife, and aimed to stab her, when he missed and cut her on the hand. Screams and shouts were heard by the neighbors who rushed in to help out.
Comfort caretaker, famously known as Mkubwa, told Campuspotlight that the young couple encountered several fights and even gave stern warning to evacuate them before this tragic incident happened.
The two were summoned before the school disciplinary board with a date set for their case hearing.

Inadequate housing in the university

We can’t deny that with the free education many people have had access to basic education which the would not have been able to afford if it was paid.
We have the government to thank for that. Free Primary and secondary education has brought about the double intake for public universities as more than 50,000 students sit for the Kenya Certificate of  Secondary Education and about 20,000 are admitted to public universities and this number increases every year.
With that said, Moi University admitted over 5000 students last which would be seen as the largest  number ever to be admitted. This of course was bound to bring problems in the Main Campus as it is where most students are to be admitted. Housing facilities were a great inconvenience to all students as many were left without room hence opting to look for other means outside the campus which was very tricky.
Some students who smelt a rat did the booking of outside hostels in the December holidays ahead of the semester which would start in the mid of January. These were the lucky few. Others came to school only to find that all rooms within and without the school. This was a great hustle for students who were forced to wait for rooms to be built so that they could move in.
This problem has caused many comrades to “pirate” in their friends’ rooms. While others opt to cohabit with their boy/girlfriends. We can just hope that the administration of the campus takes into consideration the hustles students go through and take the initiative of building new and bigger hostels, or better yet complete the many incomplete building which already have a foundation. For example, hostel i and n are halfway done.

The students can only hope for a better future and as for now take the living conditions as they are.

Your health is in your hands

The state of poor health and sanitation in Moi University is wanting! The rate at which the ignorance and naiveness of the students and even staff in this environment calls for immediate action. According to my research, the heath and sanitation department paints quite a sickening picture of Moi University’s public health at hand. The students residing in the hostels can attest to the pathetic poor sanitation and even those residing in nonresidential are not left out.
Let me take you through the depths of dirt contained in the university’s hostels, to be precise hostel J and C where the level of poor sanitation is taking toll. Students no longer consider their health as a priority but instead turn to be horribly uncivilized when it comes to washroom matters. Both hostels are ever terribly unclean, with toilet papers rolling on the ground, students do not flush after they are done, throwing of trashes in the toilets. Stagnant water is a norm in these washrooms the infrastructures are also not right, some toilet seats are very small, almost all doors have no locks, the washrooms cleaners often sleep in their jobs! Clearly from all this, you sure do agree that students have turned numb when it comes to checking in on health and sanitation.
Students from these hostels have severally bemoaned the alleged spread of bed burhs infestation owed to the congestion harboring dirt and the recurrent sharing of matresses. That is just but a start, the high population of cockroaches also co-habiting in the small congested rooms is wanting. It is bad enough that so many of these students are cut off from decent sanitation in school that guarantees its students social and economic rights.
. The poor bumpy and dusty roads hence air pollution, the under developed sewerage tunnels, poor housing, stagnant water everywhere. But wait, you will not believe it that despite all these exposure, there are markets and kiosks ‘vibandas’ where fresh vegetables and foods are sold to the students and community at large. There is constantly shortage of water, which makes you agree with me that a student will buy an apple from the market and deliciously throat it down without washing it. Another will buy Chips commonly known as “mwitu” cooked along the dusty roads and eat using dirty hands without thinking how it was prepared or the dust and dirt that mixed in the cooking.
The public health and sanitation department gave clear statistics of over 90% patients visiting the dispensary, bring to themselves harm willingly, with many diagnosed with waterborne diseases.
It is high time, we take action upon ourselves! How about we change how we do things; like practice proper sanitation, boil water before drinking, eat foods that have been properly washed? Let’s improve the sanitation.

Margaret Thatcher ,trip tour for Higj school students

Moi University has been hosting students from both primary and high school in the recent past. These students come to the campus to have an overview of what they expect after joining campus; this especially applies to the high scholars .Moi university enjoys the privilege of having a vast library which is equipped with sufficient learning resources. Among the best resources found in this Modern library is E-Learning system and online system where different articles and book materials can be obtained inline. The library has been of late attracting visitors from different schools of the country, thanks to the accommodative nature of the university

With the availability of guiders to lead them in the course of exploring the campus the students curiosity is satisfied .Most of them are seen to be enthusiastic about joining the campus. Apart from the library, the students also visit the various schools in the campus .This is mainly for the aim of widening their minds and enable them learn more about the different fields where they can base their careers on. The students are encouraged to toil more in order to get admissions in the campus. The visits are aimed at motivating the students and preparing them for campus life. What is however disappointing is the manner in which the campus students approach our visitors .Most campus students are cold to the students and may not be welcoming to them .They seem to forget that it was just yesterday that they were like the visiting students.

Campus life

Going through secondary school education, I was told about the campus freedom. This really motivated me to work hard to make it to campus to enjoy life while studying. Yeah, Moi University was a place I really aspired to be. Innocence was all over me as I entered that gate with the big phrase “karibu umefika”. Confused I was little did I knew that I just needed time and adopt to campus life. I could come across students of opposite gender walk within the campus holding each other and freak out. Combination of first years and forth years in session was one of a kind. I thought of the freedom story I was told about campus life and thought the time to enjoy was here. Relationship, yeah, relationships. They were shipping out and we were being ushered in campus life. Ann a friend of mine learnt campus life the hard way. The seniors as they called themselves were irresistible and she fell a prey for this tall, dark and handsome forth year dude. The treatments, town outings to the swimming pool and presents made me envious. He was a real senior, a man any girl would fall for, a man to pamper with the spirit of a jaluo. It is always shorelines, marginalized within the institution and mostly works whenever students are on session. Ann was left alone with a pregnancy to take care on as she never even knew where the prince charming came from. Its campus, lifestyle charger.

Fourth  year students in the school of information sciences took to the doors of the office of dean of students in that school to air their grievances over what they termed as low allowances accorded to each during field trips. This came prior to the trip scheduled on Monday October to 12thh of the same month to mombasa
. The angry student argued that the 500 accorded to each is little compared to the high economy of Kenya today. “Dollar imepanda, as such nowhere in Mombasa one can get accommodation, breakfast, lunch, supper and use the same 500 as transport fee to move from one point to another” shouted one of the students. The dean Professor Justus Wamukoya responding on the issue said that he is not in the position to do anything because the process requires a number of the senate members to sit on the issue so that their request is approved. He added , that the same thing had happened in the year 2014 where a tribunal was formed to look at the matter but nothing has been done ever since. Comrade’s power slogan that students apply to communicate to the administration was on the other side of the school of human resource development successful where the allowances in that school were increased. The biggest worry that students in the school of information sciences have right now is, how on earth they will make it in mombasa with a mere 500 shilling when some have never been in Mimbasa or rather do not have relatives there. They would like to know for how long will this go on and the students pay big amounts of money for these field trips but the question seems to remain unanswered. Arguably, someone is sleeping on their job while others pocket the money meant for comrades’ enjoyment

Shock as internet give students sleepless nights

Internet access is provided for all Students of Moi University and all internet services allow you to access the Student Portal and externally facing web-enabled resources.
In Moi university internet services are limited and therefore the norm for all students is survival for the fittest.
Around major buildings such as the Administration block,Margret Thatcher library and school of engineering, hundreds of stdents gather around to browse and take advantage of the free internet access. It is a struggle whenever a crowd is enabled to the access.
it is around nine in the evening and students not only from the school of engineering but from all schools in the Main campusare gathered in a classroom to access the internet.
Time is not always the issue at hand but wifi is.You would mistake the classroom for some education premises with many grabbing chairs to get to the world.
Students with laptops ,others with smartphones, all asking for passwords to access.
As others go to bed, others storm in to have their chance.

A Student from Moi University Main Campus ,escaped mob justice narrowly Tuesday afternoon from an irate mob, following a payment squabble after he refused to pay for a meal.
The 22-year-old was allegedly beaten almost to death by a group of angry women after he ordered for "Mandazi kataa" but unfortunately, was not in a position to pay.
The Hotel, famously known as Chela's place ,attracted mammoths of people on Tuesday afternoon with many left with a rude shock.
According to the owner of the hotel,Mrs Chela Chirchir, the student owed the hotel huge debts ,something she termed as irresponsible behavior. She narrated to Campus Spotlight, how the student whose identity is still unknown, that he stormed into the hotel as usual with a different lady and ordered for his favourite meal at kshs 50.
"I will pay for the meal,i have the money ,i can even pay for everyone to eat ,all on my bill."shouted the student.
